When to Go to Stanley

It's probably best to go in the morning before things get too hot and crowded.  During the summer the days are very hot and though the market street is covered that merely seems to trap in the heat somehow.

Opening Hours

Each shop or stall in Stanley Market arranges its own opening hours, while the market street itself is actually accessible 24 hours a day.  A few shops open at 9am but it isn't until 10am that most are open, while a few don't start trading until 11am.

Stalls start to pack up and close around 6pm or 6:30pm, by 7pm almost everything is closed except for the nearby restaurants and cafes.

If you schedule arriving at about 10:30am then you'll have plenty of time to walk the market, do a little shopping, and then select one of the many nice restaurants to have some lunch.

An alternative plan would be to arrive in the later part of the afternoon, and after spending some time in the market you might want to move on to Aberdeen for dinner if none of the restaurants or bars in Stanley Village appeal.

Weekends, Public Holidays and Chinese New Year

The market is open all days of the week including weekends and all public holidays, such as Christmas and Easter.

Only during Chinese New Year are there any closures. The Luna New Year festivities officially lasts 3 days and you will find that on the first day of the Chinese new year around half of the shops will be closed, particularly the smaller and family run ones.

By the second day of the New Year almost all will have resumed normal business hours.
